I was looking for a trip where we were well cared… read more for, well fed with delicious food and some amenities of luxury- nicely appointed clean rooms, excellent hospitality by staff and a few luxury amenities like a pool and these were all provided by Boniface who ensures that all your needs are met. He would check in with us multiple times during the day, ensured we had all the bathroom breaks needed, that the kids had snacks and drinks they liked and coordinated with our lodging to make sure we were well cared for.

But mostly, this trip was to be close to natural surroundings in Tanzania. I have a keen interest in behavioural ecology and was so impressed with Boniface and our lovely kind driver Matthew. They answered all of our questions about the environment, animals, culture and peoples with elaborate detail, knowledge and translated this into explanations we could all understand, from teens to elderly. Conversations were intelligent injected with humor and he made everything relatable and explained a lot of our ‘why’ questions about the animals and environment. I feel that with their guidance we really came away with a better understanding of Tanzania and its people and animals which was my ultimate goal.

In terms of seeing the animals, we were able to see all of the big five, as well as snakes gazelles impalas zebras wildebeest and cheetahs. There is nothing like an elephant so close you could touch it. And a hippo grazing outside your tent in the quiet of the night. The staff at our tented lodge helped us to understand how to stay safely in the middle of the Serengeti so that we could enjoy being so close to nature. Boniface and Matthew were intent on making sure we saw as many animals as possible and allowing us to stop for photos as much as we wanted.

I cannot say enough good things about this experience. It was meant to be just a great family trip for my kids with the grandparents but I think we ALL came away changed after this experience and have so many wonderful memories to share thanks to Boniface and Matthew. I hope if you get the opportunity to book with East Africa Adventure Club, that you do it. You will not regret it.

In terms of what to bring- sunscreen, bug repellent and hiking boots. We used our rain jacket once and Sandals during down time. Most places had shampoo soap etcetera. You can pay for laundry and some areas, but we just brought a clothing line and a small container of detergent. Hat and sunglasses are a must.
